ture we don’t always
associate with the
popularized western
cowboy image, now
extensively used in
the promotion of
everything from
cigarettes and beer to
boots and sausages.

Vancouver photographer
Ronnie Tessler has spent
three years on the rodeo cir-
cuit trying to capture the liv-
ing, breathing ‘professional
rodeo cowboy and the extra-
ordinary results can be seen

in a three-week exhibition of
her work starting on April 3
at Presentation House. The
photographs in the show are
all taken from her recently
published book Crackin’
Out.

It's all there in the faces —
the pain, the weariness and
the thrills as the cowboys
perform their feats of in-
credible athletic skill.

To celebrate the opening
of Rodeo at 8 p.m. on April
3, Presentation House has
laid on a special Cowboy
Supper complete with beans,
sourdough bread and beer.

Later in the evening rodeo
champions Tom Bews, Five
Times All Round Canadian
Cowboy Champion, Bob
Phipps, 1979 Canadian Bull
Riding Champion and
Harley Hook, Former Cana-
dian Calf Roping Champion
will give their own inimitable
“Lecture/Demonstrations”.
