Spanish music throbbed from
the stereo. It was about. the
time I. took to carrying a red

. Air: Canada whisked us to
London where we changed to
‘British Airways for a couple
of hours into Malaga. At the
Malaga airport a cab driver
waiting with a big, hand
lettered sign - MACARADI.
It looked like something of
the dinner menu but we
hopped in before he could
change his mind.

The apartment! Living rom
beautifully furnished. Dining
‘room with hand painted local
pottery and lots of flower
vases. Kitchen with stove
_and fridge. containing a
fully-serviced mini-bar. Two

balconies. Bedroom with -.

alas! - lousy beds, but you
‘can’t have everything. We
drew up two comfortable
chairs on the balcony over-
looking the Mediterrancan,
raided the mini-bar and
mused, smugly, on how the

sparkled invitingly. A swim,
a nap and then DINNER-
TIME! :

Later, we ambled down to.

the beachfront where res-
taurants were strung out for
a couple of blocks. While we
ordered. a pre-dinner drink

we also asked if they had -.

: something crisply fried in’ -
~ batter was set before us.

that wasn’t much help
because I couldn’t under-
stand the answer. We
munched away. Suddenly, I
took a closer look at what I
was mucnhing! An eye was
peering up at me. What we
had were whole baby an-
chovies, deep fried!. WE
looked at each other, slightly
appalled, but then said
husband, We like them just
fine before we knew what
they were,”’ and he passed
me the plate. The rest of the
meal was equally delicious.

We ate in the apartment
quite often. I loved. the
Spanish food markets and
vegetable stalls. Bacon and
‘epes for brunch with fat,
tough-skinned tomatoes
ripened in the hot Spanish
sun. (The bacon is home-cur-
ed and not refrigerated. A
small pair of scissors helped
‘to remove the rind with it’s
spots of mould. Although it’s
perfectly safe, it was a scoop.
I kept from husband - until
he caught me in the act!)
