That single event is the reason Howard McMahon ts celebrating the 20th anniversary of West Van- couver's highly successful Howard's Pianos. “I was a music student at the Quebec Conservatory at the time and I was very fussy about keeping my piano tuned,” says Howard. The tuner, Mr. Harry Van Rantwyk, needed a driver and Howard needed to conserve funds. Thus a relationship that ultimately saw Howard open his popular North Shore business in 1977 began. “I learned to tune and repair pianos over the two years [ drove hin around,” says Howard. “When he retired, he gave me a lot of his customers and | just kept continuing from there.” And after all these years, is this piano afficionado getting bored? “f have never tired of i “] go all over the buying pianos. At one time I even owned the second oldest Steinway in existence.
