‘the bi e big pond’ SOME B.C Institute of Technology (BCIT) students recently took their work out of the classroom and into the environmental wilderness at North Van- couver’s Seymour River hatchery. By Surj Rattan News Reporter The students, enrolled in BCIT’s fish and recreational pro- gram, spent the day in what is known as “the big pond” netting and tagging coho salmon. Mark Angelo, Assistant Dean of Renewable Resources and Bio- logical Sciences, said the students will return to the hatchery this month and the tags will allow them to count the coho popula- tion. “We'll also be taking the eggs from the fish. We select 400 or SOO fish and take the eggs and then raise the eggs in the hatch- ery,’’ says Angelo.
