climates, such as Hawaii and Australia, with more destina-

tions planned for the future.

French immersion students
participate in Mind games

ECOLE PAULINE Johnson,
West Vancouver's intermediate
French immersion school, has won
in one category of the Olympics
of the Mind.

The school has won at the pro-
vincial level ia competition every
year since 1983. This year, the
participating students from Ecole
Pauline Johnson were the
youngest im their category.

The Grade 6 team won in the
theme category in which they had
to illustrate what happened at the
ancient Roman city of Pompeii by
doing a skit. They were judged on
their props, costumes and scenery.

Olympics of the Mind is an in-

ternational organization based on
the belief that creativity can be
enjoyed and rewarded with the
same enthusiasm and competitive
spirit as athletics and that the
mind, like the body, can be train-
ed through practice and exercise to
reach its fullest potential.

The winning West Vancouver
team was made up of coach Judy
Young, Mary George, Andrew
Hogan, Stephanie Lake, Erin
Mitchell, Leila Shifteh, Jennifer
Sunday and Jessica Young.

The team recently returned
from the world finals in Tennessee
where they competed against
teams from several countries.
