ESTIMATED 1,200 OFF-STREET SHORTFALL IN PARKING PAUCITY in the Lower Lonsdale area has mer- chants scrambling to develop their own solutions to the chronic park- ing stall shortfall. ICHAEL BECKER News Reparter The Lower Lonsdale Merchants Association signed an agreement recently allowing some of its members access to 80 spaces own- ed by Versatile Pacific Shipyards Inc. in the shipyard’s Esplanade parking lot. As of March 1, association members will be able to rent the spots and in turn help relieve park- ing pressures in the area. Said Lower Lonsdale businessman Ken Bassam,‘*When the mayor asks, ‘What are you do- ing about it,’ we can demonstrate what we’re doing. There should be 700 or 800 parking spaces there to service the neighborhood right now.
