Board develops family ed.

THE NORTH Vancouver School
Board has approved a recommen-
dation to develop a family life
education program in District 44
schools.

{In introducing the motion Jan.
28, trustee Marg Jessup told board
members that schools in the
district currently had no cur-
riculum in place that dealt with
developing healthy attitudes and
cultivating lasting, positive family
relationships.

In times when children and fam-

ilies seemed to be continually’

bombarded with tie horrors of

child abuse, family break-up and
unemployment, Jessup said the
need to counteract the effects of
such negative social breakdown
was acute. .

“It is an area of special concern
to me,”’ she said. ‘‘Certainly there
are things being done in the
district, but there is no overall pol-
icy.””

The role of District 44 schools in
areas of family life and health
education was thus far unclear, she
said.

Jessup’s motion was carried
unanimously.
