someone dies without a will?
A} When a person dies and
leaves no will. the Estate
Administration Act establishes
the priority of relatives’ rights to
administer the estate. Spouses
have first priority. followed by
children, grandchildren (or
guardians on their behalf) and
arents, Siblings are next. fol-
lowed by nieces and nephews.
Any one of the heirs to an estate
can administer the estate with
the consent of the other heirs, If
there are no next of kin willing
and able tu handle this responst-
bility. then the duty falls asa last
resort to the Public Trustee of
British Columbia.

Everyone should have a will.
It’s never too soon: te make provi-
sions for your death or possible
incapacity. This is true even if
you have few assets or are confi-
dent that family and friends will

handle things the way you want
