Unions should
invest in bridge

Dear Editor,

Why have an Internet North Shore News *Forum,” when
a theoretical four-hoops-of-censorship of an editorial board
of a hard-copy newspaper, are then circumvented?

I could “publish” via your fecum, my beliefs that a cross-
ing of Georgia Strait is tinancially viable.

The catch is that the members of B.C. Federation of
Labour and other alliances, would have to be encouraged, if
not ordered, by a new Liberal government (provincially), chat
it (a bridge) would be in their own best interest.

Contederation Bridge is making moncy, and will continue
to do so for the next 30 years, as a toll bridge.

ABC. Federation Bridge (uamed in honour of their con-
tributions, both in labour and forced financing) would also
make money for their pension plans, and participants, for the
next 35 years (more traffic/less time to pay-off).

Check with an actuary for an exact potential of returns
and for rules that are required to be adhered to in the
Pension Benefits Standards Act (PBSA) of British Cotumbia,
current and future changes.

Unions (fecry) who are dependent upon dictating the
enslavement of taxpayers’ personal assets, solely so that more
fong-term union jobs ean be created for them, and to ensure
that they don’t lose a portion of any of those jobs to a tixed
immovable link called a bridge, are living in an age which
most of us left behind in our childhood of the "50s.

There! J said it. Now, do [ go for the Internet forum with
this opinion or do I wait to see if a hard-copy news outlet
prints it?

Keep spending in North Van

Dear Editor.

Re: “Council's
Harrison”

Seoooo, Bill “Homer Simpson” Bell
thinks that the recent “Weekend at the
Harrison” was a worthy way to spend
$4,000 of the taxpavers’ money. Further,
he gets himself quoted as saving “To sit in
a hotel room with no windows and away
from vour family for a day and a half — it’s
not the perk it sounds fike.”

Well T have a question for “Homer”
and the rest of the free spending
“Simpsons.” Why did any of you feel tt
Necessary to spend tour grand tor a week-
end at “The Harrison,” in the first place,
when there are literally thousands of evic-
owned rooms available for your use right
here in North Van? And why, if there is by

some wild stretch of die imagination, a
valid reason for it, did you nor at least keep
the funds in N. Van? You know, N. Van
money helping N.Van business? I'm certain
that somewhere, somehow, one of our N.
Van hostefries could have come up with a
“windowless room” for your use. And
might [ add, for a danin sight less than four
grand!

What makes this nonsensical display of
irresponsible spending even more egre-
gious, is that it was supposedly all in the
name of “setting priorities for spending”!

Some of the “priorities” apparently dis-
cussed were: “advertising” (whose and
why! Are we paying the costs of seeing our
elected representative's faces in’ the
media?); an apparent policy of making the
city an “apartheid free zone” (Jeez, coun-
