All you need is to run in for one _ quick item. In desperation you pull into a Disabled Parking Stall. “I'll only be a minute”, you rationalize. Well, in future you might want to think again, about your “race for space”. Besides not respecting the rights of the disabied, a move like this will soon cost you $35.00! . Here's the story behind the new Disabled Parking bylaw. THE BACKGROUND NEW DISABLED PARKING SIGNS The Solicitor General was approached by: The Motor Vehicle Act Regulations sets out the Disabled Parking Sign requirements. ¢ The Union of B.C. A new regulation was introduced under Provincial Order in Council providing authority for municipalities to implement a Disability Parking Program that is locally administered and enforced. SPACE REGULATIONS THE CITY RESPONSES The City Council responded by passing a motion to enforce disabled parking on private property on a complaint basis. Spaces would be deemed enforceable as jong as the proper signage (as set out in the Motor Vehicle Act) is in place. a There must be one Disabled Parking Stall for every fifty regular parking stalls.
