New WV orchesira set for rehearsal

WEST VANCOUVER is gefting a
new amateur music group, the
Ambleside Orchestra.
The group’s first
Saturday, March 7.
Headed by arranger, composer
and conductor Anita Sleeman, the
orchestra will be based in the
West Vancouver's Senior Centre.
Performers will attend a 12-week
spring course in the music room of
the seniors’ centre, with Sleeman

rehearsal is

giving instruction in theory, in-
tonation and ensemble playing.
Anyone with a reasonable ability
to sight read is welcome to join.
There will be no auditions.
Participants can look forward to
a program of Bach, Mozart,
Wagner, Bizet and Prokofieif. “It
will range from the light to the
not-so-light until we build up our
own library,”” says Sleeman, who
has conducted the Nevada County

Band Concert and the Capilano
College Orchestra.

“We're going to have a very
diverse musical style and try to
appeal to a wide audience. I'll be
fun but fun accompanied — by
dedication and work.”

Membership in the centre and a
small course tee will be required.
