If passed, the initiative would mean the terminally i] could commit suicide with the help of their doctors, by having life support systems withdrawn. Also, dectors would be percnitted to kiii patients who kave fewer tana six months _ to live and who have requested in a living will that they want their life terminated. Those defending patients’ rights say the passing of such an initiative would herald a new attitude in the medical profession by acknowledging that mot all illmesses are treatable. Cpponents, however, maintain that taking a patient’s life is simply bad medical practice. Symons may have some merit, but it ‘is too flawed to be taken seriously. . First, the: only Quebecers who saw real action in both wars were in the Van Doos — and they were heroic. And while a number of Quebecers served in non-Quebec units, little is known of their ac- tivities. However, in the Second Wosld War a large number of Quebecers who were sent overseas went to Newfoundland (not yet a province Publisher Peter Speck of Canada) and were given little “overseas”? buttons for their ef- fort. But a majority simply ref- used to go te war for the English. This is not prejudice but historic fact for anyone who cares to in- vestigate. Second, the province of Quebec never was — legally — and that is why their very socialist leader, Trudeau, ‘‘brought home the BNA.” This Act osiy permitted Quebec to exist approximately 100 miles notth of the St. Lawrence River. Now Quebec claims everything north of the river that they dare smudge blue ink on! Herewith a few early lutters: DEAR HITHER: I have falien madly in love with the woman of- fice supervisor at my new job, though so far I’ve been careful not to reveal my feelings. She seems quite favorably disposed towards me and often compli- ments me on my work. I am 27, ‘very presentable and clean-living. Would it be sexual harassment if I invited her for a dinner date at a nice restaurant? CONFUSED, DELBROOK. DEAR CONFUSED: A lot de- pends on your own gender, of course. However, you can easily find out. If she responds to your invitation with a pink slip, yes — your're harassing her. DEAR HITHER: I'm sick of male colleagues patting me and pawing me at the water cooler. I wear mini-skirts and thin, open- neck blouses to work simply because the office is always tez- ribly overheated. What can I do to stop it? HOT HILARY, DEAR HOT: Either disconnect the thermostat (there are books in the fibrary that teil you how) or cover up anyway and sweat it out. DEAR HITHER: A female worker in my department is most unpleasant, always insulting and putting down us males. Last week 1 offered an olive branch by com- plimenting her on her pretty dress. She promptly slapped my face. What did I do wrong? INJURED, LYNN VALLEY. DEAR INJURED: She may simply have been trying to wake you up. Male-baiting females in . pretty dresses have no respect for wimps. DEAR HITHER: The boss always asked me to sit close beside him when dictating, so that we could rub knees. I liked that a lot. Now he insists I sit on his lap, which is even more fun. But do you think he’s maybe going a bit TOO fast? NICELY BROUGHT UP, AMBLESIDE. DEAR NICELY: It’s purely a matter of how soon you want to reach your destination. Given the mileage you’ve already clocked up, I wouldn’t recommend wasting any time on the Human, Wrongs Commission. DEAR HITHER: Everyone agrees sexual harassment is no DAVID MITCHELL... late parachutist. Noei Wright Soames Way HITHER AND YON joke. But to be totally ignored by attractive guys because they’re terrified of ending up in court is no joke either. What do you sug- gest a healthy, fun-loving working woman should do? SUDDENLY DATELESS, DOLLARTON. DEAR DATELESS: Emigrate and get a job in Mexico or Italy!
