The trin started well with a fresh ~ sushi bar, g00d quality food and an informal lower deck bar and grill. And while Crossings continues on its culinary voyage, progress has slowed somewhat. The quality of food remains good at Crossings and its lower deck bistro features live music and a lively atmosphere, but the res- taurant seems to have made little headway from its home port toward the exotic and culinary excellence originally laid out on its charts. The sushi bar is gone, its new menu is sornewhat smaller than the original, and owner Peter lacus, doubling as a waiter, bears the harried demeanor and wrinkled brow of a sea captain who has spent too many long hours on the bridge steering clear of the annoy- ing flotsam and jetsam that bobs everywhere in the treacherous res- taurant business sea. The portion was generous: at least six thick, fresh scallops and lots of firm shrimp in a marinade of lemon juice, olive oil and basil. The dish was garnished with leaves of lamb lettuce, slices of tomatoes and oranges. Overall, it was very good and very tilling. We tried a Cabernet-Merlot from Chile’s Vina Santa Rita winery ($16.95), which has a long history, established as it was in 1880, and a long list of good quality wine.
