se a RCMP honored for bravery FIVE NORTH Vanconver RCMP members were recently presented ‘with medals of bravery by the Rt. Hon. Jeanne Sauve, Governor General of Canada. The officers risked their lives on Sept. 10, 1986, when they at- tempted to save four children who were being held hostage in the family hauie by Rou Pryce, their mentaily-unstable father. The children died when Pryce shot them, set fire to the house and then shot himself. The five paiive officers had rushed into the burning building in a bid te save the children. Crime Stoppers solves cases AS A result of public assistance, the Greater Vancouver Crime Stoppers unit has solved a record number of cases during the first six months of the year. Sigalficantly, more than $1.2 million in Blegal drugs was seized during the period. More than $5 million worth of illegal drugs have been seized by police since the Crime Stoppers program began in 1985. Daring the past six months, 475 cases have been cleared by Crime Stoppers. Said Detective Mike Harrower, one of the unit’s three in- vestigators: ‘‘Because of the wide publicity, people have realized that an anonymous. phone call to the Crime Stoppers tips line is often all it takes to solve a crime, without the caller becoming di- rectly involved.”” The pregram’s success has meant that the money in the Crime Stoppers reward fund has drained fast. Crime Stoppers has paid out almost $32,000 during the first six months of the year, com- pared to $22,000 for the same period last year. WV youth faces multiple charges A 15-YEAR-old West Vancouver youth faces charges of theft over $1,000 and hit and run fellowing the theft of a 1989 Jeep. West Vancouver Police were called to the 500-block of 13th Street just after 2. a.m. Police had received report of a hit and run, and a resident witnessed four people fleeing from the Jeep. Police dog Razz was brought to the scene where the Jeep was located. The dog tracked north from the vehicle along 13th Street and crossed to the northwest corner of Duchess Avenue and 13th Street. Razz turned west along Duchess, tracked across the paved parking lot of Hollybura School and tracked to the southwest cor- ner of the building. The tracking continued and eventually ended mid-biock of the 1400-bieck of Fulton Avenue, where < West Vancouver Police cruiser was parked in the roadway. On reaching the front of the car, Razz jumped up and began barking and growling at a woman seated in the rear seat of the car. The officer driving the car had found the teen walking in the area just before Razz caught up with her. Razz was returned to the original scene to search for other miss- ing suspects, but was unable to locate them. Tourism beooth tours W. Farley, who was initially ap- poinied to the board in May 1988 and elected chairman June 27, will serve a one-year term. Graham Crockart will serve a second term as vice-chairman. Farley is vice-president of Farley Enterprises Ltd., where she is a special events and fund-raising consultant. Formerly president and general manager of the Royal Hudson Steami Train Society, she has an extensive background in fund rais- ing and organization of special events for educational institutions and cultural organizations. Farley is currently a member of the advisory committee for the 25th anniversary celebrations of Simon Fraser University, and a member of the organizing commit- tee of the Vancouver Symphony of Light. The Ministry of Advanced Education and Job Training has also appointed a new member to the college board. Arthur Trinker, a North Shore resident, is a re-employment con- sultant for the firm of Murray Axmith.
