It’s so low-profile, in fact, that the students have:a.pro- blem — hardly anyone shows up to take advantage of their services. Last Tuesday was typical when the five budding lawyers were all but reduced to flipping coins to see who would handle the lone client that showed up. Stephan Herman, a law student who handles publici- ty for the Law Students Legal Advice Program, says part of the reason for the lack of clients may be the woes fac- ing other legal advice and aid services in the province. ‘With all the problems Legal Aid is having with the provincial government, 1! think people may -be associating our service with theirs and figure we've being The North Vancouver operation, which runs from 7 to 9 p.m;every Tuesday night at the St. Mary Community Centre, is. staffed by five or six students, each capable of handling up to three cases a night. The students, all volunteers, operate under a co-ordinator, who is a prac- ticing lawyer, and provide a full range of legal services. Those services, says Her- man, range from providing information of other available services to pro- viding advice on how to deal with legal problems.
