RTIST TIKO Kerr recently hosted an excellent party at his studio. Normally, his parties would be at the Diane Farris Gallery, but Tiko wanted to thank his yatron, clothier Mark James, who owns the Yaletown building containing Tiko’s atelier. A surprisingly large crowd showed, including many North Shorites. West Van's Stan and Michelle Ross were there. Michelle founded West Van's Wildflowers, but is too busy decorating their new Whistler house to miss the flower business. North Van couturier Feizal Virani chatted with Montreal’s Sheldon Rosen, director of the playwriting program ai the Na- tional Theatre School of Canada, who spends summers writing here; and Louis Eisman, ex-Mr. Jax president and self-proclaimed Vancouver fashion industry king, who'd just been fishing in Alaska and is enjoying his extended vaca- tion. North Van firefighter David Franco was looking but not quite buying; and West Van writer James Dunnison came with his doctor/sculptor stepfather Alan Conolly. Both men were celebrating the birth of Connor Conolly Moyles, who is the new son of Jamie’s sister/Alan’s daughter Elaine. Also sipping drinks, served by West Van bartender Stephen Nairne, was North Van film pro- ducer Tom Rowe; and | talked with West Van native Lisa Pan- tages, who was just home from visiting her pal, ex-West Vanner Kimberly Conrad, now Kimberly Hefner, at the Playboy Mansion. While there, Lisa, a frequent visitor to the mansion, taught the Hefner boys how to swim and reports that Hugh is busy working on his autobiography — now that will be an interesting read. kak After the Kerr party, we had a small birthday dinner for Heather Belzberg at Saltimbocca. People rave about this place — | don’t know why. Foed's fine, ser- vice OK, decor OK, but the prices are ridiculous and the valet _ parkers interrupt diners mid-bite to demand their five bucks. Ugh. The conversation was interest- ing, though. JULY 29 - AUGUST 3 Loutse Aird BRIGHT LIGHTS With us was Calvin Fox, son of Petey, as in Peter Fox Shoes, as in the former Fox & Fluevog Shoes. Since separating, both men have become wildly successful, especially in New York, and former North Shorite John Fluevog, whose shoes are faves of the likes of Madonna and Cher, and who gets much credit for the return of the platform, has done a shoe for the Absolut Vodka cam- paign. The heel is a bottle of Absolut and the caption will read ‘‘Ab- solut Fluevog.’’ kk t West Van couple Richard Lind- sey and Leona Burnett have tied the knot and are now on a mon- th-long cycling honeymoon in Maui. Leona, who wore a white bead- ed gown, is the daughter of Betty and Ed Burnett, who've just mov- ed to North Van; and Richard, who wore the elegant tuxedo which | convinced him to buy {one never knows when one will need a tux!), is the son of Louise and Joe Lindsey of Eagle Harbour. The ceremony was at West Van Baptist church, then the 80 guests packed Gamel Hanna’s Salute and partied into the night. Weddings usually make me ner- vous, but this one was fun. My table included Vancouver businessman and Moroccan Con- sul Percy von Lipinski, who left early to catch a plane to Morocco for the month-long birthday cele- 3 ARTIST TIKO Kerr with West Van's Michelle and Stan Ross at Kerr’s studio party. bration of King Hassan Il. 1 don’t know what form the celebration is taking — much golf was planned. Lipinski doesn’t drink, so a month in a Muslim country won't bother him. As for the hundreds of other guests, I’m sure there'll be lots of lemonade... Across from me was handsome West Van developer Blair Norton, who's working on housing projects in Surreyevo and is the former Nesbit Thompson VP and BCIT economics lecturer who took so much heat from feminists for tell- ing “jokes” that he no longer lec- tures at that institution (he told me the jokes — they weren’t that bad). And to my right was Leona’s former boss (at BC Tel) Ross Pilgrims with his wife Carol. Turns out that Ross and Carol were the first couple ever married at West Van Baptist — on my birthday, Sept. 16, 1967 (so that OPEN HOLIDAY MONDAY 12 - 5] PLUS MUCH, MUCH OPEN MON. - FRI. 20 -8 SAT. 16-6 SUN. 12-5 makes me, er, 262)... kk & If you need a laugh, check out the seventh Vancouver Interna- tional Comedy Festival. it starts tomorrow and takes place mainly at Granville Island, but check the paper for other venues.
