Tax plan lauded

WEST VANCOUVERITES may not like their municipal taxes this year,
but many of them do like the district’s new tax and utilities prepayment
plan. .

“Ie is rare that the Municipal Finance Department would ever get a
compliment and rarer still to get a positive letter (the last one was as re-
cent as ten years ago!)”’ said Director of Finance George Horwood in a
letter to the local council. .

Residents have been pleased with the plan because of the convenience
of not having to write cheques, and the fact that only a small amount of
the taxes are payable at this time of year.

Council's recent decision to include utilities in the prepayment plan has

also proved popular.

Golfers join group

WITH PLANS under way to develop a new golf course on Hollyburn
Ridge, West Vancouver District Council is enlisting the assistance of a
group of loca! knowledgeable people.

Parking poses problem

THE “DUMPING”? of cars by ferry patrons in the streets
of Horseshoe Bay has prompted the local business associa-
tion to demand action from West Vancouver District

Council.

There is a parking lot available,
but the Horseshoe Bay Business
and Professional Association has
noted that it is often ‘virtually
empty.”’

“The municipality can provide
all the paid parking it wishes, but
violators are naturally going to
take advantage of ‘free’ parking
first,’’ said co-chairpersons Chris
Adshead and Dorothy Bonny in a
letter to council.

They have charged Bowen Island
and Sunshine Coast residents with
the overnight ‘‘dumping”’ of their
cars in residential streets.

these parkers the convenience, but
they bear ro financial burden in
this community,” said Adshead
and Bonny.

The association is asking for a
one-hour parking limit on Royal
Avenue, as-in other commercial
areas, and the posting of ‘‘Resi-
dent-Onl, Parking’’ signs in resi-
dential areas.

Municipal staff have met with
Horseshoe Bay representatives to
discuss their concerns and ideas.

ing department was receptive to
the idea of one-hour parking on
Royal Avenue and has suggested
an extension of the current 7 a.m.
to 7 p.m. no-parking regulations in
residential areas to 10 p.m.

“We have been dealing with
weekend parking problems, but
were not aware until recently of
this commuter parking during the
week,’’ said McKay. ,

The engineering department is
also looking at the idea of resi-
dent-only parking restricticns,
which are currently in place in
Vancouver.
