SOMEONE accidentally
walking into North
Vancouver provincial
courtroom one on
Monday could have
sworn there was a murder
trial going on.

The case involved a tragedy
all right. The people in’ the
courtroom) were solemn and
sad. But all those in attendance
were there only to see if'a traffic
infraction could be proved: or
not.

The charges‘ against Susan
Catherine Low, 46, both fell
under the Motor Vehicle Act. If
convicted, the North Vancouver
woman will receive six: driving
demerit points and a possible
fine.

The victim in the case was a
pedestrian in a crosswalk. After
Low's Honda hit Kathleen
Frances Williams in 1995, the

Rapid transit pushed

A North Vancouver District councillor says
the leadership needed to bring rapid tran-
sit to the North Shore is lacking.

Coun, Ernie Crist, the district’s representative on the
Greater Vancouver Regional District’s Transportation and
Strategic Planning Committee, argues the North Shore needs
rapid transit for economic reasons and to maintain North Shore
livability.

But in a letter to other district councillors, Crist said the
three North Shore councils are lagging rather than paving the

transit, took his counell to task for its lack of leadership.

impacted,” he reported to council,

Crist added the district must convince West Vancouver and

But like the GVRD, not all North Shore members of the
GVRD's transportation committee believe rapid transit is the
answer for the area at this Gime.

North Vancouver City Coun, Barbara Sharp, who’s the city’s
representative on the regional committee, said it’s a question of
money and priorities, She said that the bigger picture must be
looked at and other areas of the Lower Mainland have greater
population density than the North Shore.
