Getting Started

on’t be intimidated by fly fishing! | think the most common
Bae misconception about getting into fly fishing is “it’s too expensive
or “it’s too complicated”. Fly fishing is just like any other sport. You
must educate yourself to some degree in order to become successful at
what you are doing. Take some casting jessons or a fly fishing course.
These are available on a private or a group basis, and trust me, it is
worth every penny. it is better to get a good start and learn the
correct way than to try and fix oad habits later. It will also save you
hours of frustration and you will enjoy the sport much more.

with a leader. |
recommend using a
floating line to start
with as it is usually a
bright visible colour.
It is easier to see
the line in the air
and on the water
and hence
understand the
dynamics of fly
casting. Although
very functional,
sinking lines are
usually a dark
colour and not as
easy to see. Make
sure you tie on a clear monofilament leader on the end of your fly line
with a small piece of yarn or wool. You really don’t want to be
practicing with a hook when you are just learning!
With a little effort and time you will be fly casting in no time!
