Sept. 15: The North Vancouver Recreation Commission will be hosting a North Shore running clinic this fall, open to everyone from the beginning runner to the old pros. The club will provide Sportsplex home of new 3-on-3 tournament IF YOU and two of your friends think you are the best basketball players out on the blacktop or in the gym, Capilano College Sportsplex is giving you the charice to show your stuff. The Sportsplex, along with the North Van Recreation Commis- sion and Basketball B.C., are sponsoring the first annual “Turkey Shoot’? 3-on-3 basket- ball tournament from Oct. 2 to 4. The event is a back-to-basics tournament, emphasizing friendly competiton, simple rules, contests, and categories for all levels of players. A similar tournament in Van- couver in July — the ‘Heat on the Streets’? 3-on-3 — attracted over 390 teams to B.C, Place, and @ recent 3-on-3 competition in Edmonton registered over 500 teams. The “Turkey Shoot” event will offer the following categories: boys and girls, family (one adult and two children), mixed (one male, two females), corporate, and men’s and women’s divisions. The organizers are still looking for sponsors for the tournament. Leavenworth seniors’ day trip planned THE NORTH Shore Neighbourhood House (NSNH) is organizing a seniors’ day trip to Leav- enworth and Tumwater Canyon. Participants will travel aboard a luxury coach to charming Leav- enworth, which is nestled in the Cascade Mountains of Washington. “This lovely little Bavarian town was once a rugged frontier centre where fur traders and tailway men built a somewhat ‘unrefined’ reputation,’’ say trip organizers. During the trip seniors will have the opportunity to visit plenty of shops and restaurants. The trip will also include a stop at Tum- water Canyon.
