the right talking toy

THAT SOUND you will be hear-
ing in your local toy store, is this
year’s rage for children aged 10
and under: electronic talking toys.

Since fast year's introduction of
the first talking toys, new talking
animals have been introduced with
increased vocabulary, reduced
reliance on heavy mechanical
devices and an ability to engage
children in interactive conversa-
tion.

What makes one talking toy bet-
ter than another? How do they
differ? Which talking toys will ap-
peai to toddlers, pre-schoolers and
elementary school age children?

The following guidelines com-

piled by one of the world’s largest
toy companies, offer some useful
tips in selecting talking toys for
this Christmas season.

«Size and weight — Heavy
mechanisms in many talking toys
make them too difficult for young
children to carry. A talking toy
should be a best friend for a child
and, therefore, able to be safely
and easily carried wherever the
child goes.

Do not forget the weight of bat-
teries either. Talking toys, using
the smallest batteries, are usually
the best.
