Sports SLATED FOR JULY 12 | Kkotorists to raliy on Vancouver is. THEY ARE ready to rally on Vancouver Island this summer. The Vancouver Island Rally Rac- ing Association has announced the Island Rally, organized in con- junction with the Islands 86 Socie- ty and sanctioned by the Canadian Automobile Sport Club. The car rally is made up of two events covering many of Van- couver Island's scenic roadways. The first event takes place July 12 and 13 starting in Nanaimo at Rutherford Mall, stopping over- night in Courtenay and finishing in Nanaimo again. The second event will start at Saunders Subaru in Victoria and finish in the Victoria area while the overnight stop will be in Port Alberni. It will take place on the weekend of September 13 and 14. This event is a time-speed- distance car rally where a crew consisting of a driver, a navigator and a licensed vehicle (no motor- cycles) are required to follow a secret route specified by the orga- nizers. The rally speeds are kept below the legal posted limits and the crew that completes the route and comes closest to the correct time is declared the winner. In the mixed boys and girls under 12 years old, there was a good turnout and good swordplay between the ycungsters. First place was decided on only one hit as Andy Curtis over- powered Nora Varaljay by 5-4.
