C apilano College started in West Van- >. couver in. 1968 and, over the years, we have reported to the people of West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Howe Sound, and the Sunshine Coast in a variety of ways. In the earliest days, we reported regularly to the School Boards of our region. We have prepared Annual Reports and held public meetings to deal with specific issues such as our Educa- tional Plan. Articles and feature stories about life on campus have appeared in local papers regularly. In these days of fast-paced change, finan- cial uncertainty, and concern about what educational institutions are doing, we want to bring you up to date. We have changed in many Ways and this brief report is a portrait of what we are today. But we have not changed in one impor- tant way — Capilano College is still your community college. Nel a f _ Chairman, College"Board . Some Facts About. Capilano College @ Capilano is the fourth’ largest (in stu- dent numbers) of the fifteen provincial community colleges. Gop eH? @ Its mandate is to serve the residents of North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Howe Sound and the Sunshine Coast. @ It was founded by the school boards and residents of North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and Howe Sound through referendum in 1967. @ The doors opened in 1968. @ Cap has a comprehensive curriculum covering Academic/University Transfer, - Career and Vocational Programs, and Ex- tension credit-free offerings. @ 4,000-4,500 students are in formal credit "programs at any one time. @ Another 5,000 persons take Extension credit-free programs each year. @ The annual operating budget is $14 million. @ Approximately $25 million worth of equipment and-facilities is centred at the main, Lynnmour Campus. @ There are three centres to serve its communities: Squamish (Howe Sound), Sechelt (Sunshine Coast) and Lynnmour (North & West Vancouver). @ Cap employs about 400 faculty and staff.
