No luck—and,. although. it was adequate she said it wasn’t as godd as Mom’s homemade. We left’ “Raffles” $150 poorer—but it sure was an experience. The service was great. Just a quick sketch of some of the restaurants we tried: 1. The Kihei Village Fish House Restaurant: Packed with peop “Yetch” worse. and the dressing We “seafood Casserole of the Day” (me!) and the Scampi. Both were excellent. Mine had a wine’ and cheese sauce—delicately browned that would qualify for a “nine.” The scampi were buttered and garlicked well enough to rate Brian the roll- away cot. With wine and a cocktail, plus tip $70 for two. 2. The Maui What a salad bar! I pigged out on a huge bow! of superb artichoke hearts with an “Eight rating’ on the dressing. You wouldn't believe the quantity of crab legs served as one of the entrees. Service great. The other le. The salad with. tried both ‘the Outrigger:. crab was $10. 95. ‘Rainbow trout—$7.95. Chicken—$6:95." Top. Sirloin—$9.75. Our bill ‘was . $40 for two. Don’t try this place without reservations on- rainy nights. They use a beautiful: outdoor patio to -house the throngs of people ‘who arrive unannounced but comes. the monsoon. and forget it. . 3. The Kihei Prime Rib. The | salad bar here ties -with the - - Outrigger for quality and quantity. Especially if you. dig avocado. The dressings, too, are definitely “8.” Nice surroundings. The. service is LOUSY. |: We had met some friends from home—pre-arranged— . and six of us sallied fortb. The waiter not only dumped food all over one of the men, he served the prime rib luke- warm and hasn't been seen since. Our drinks arrived an hour after we did and our wine, eventually, when we were three-quarters full of dinner. Warm, too. Some people did: manage to get coffee—but not the ones who ordered it. Since I never touch the stuff - after lunchtime, guess who got a full cup? There was an argument among us, later, as to what to tip. I opted for sending the waiter a bill. My husband suggested leaving six pen- nies. Some idiot left him a couple of dollars. Sad. 4. MacDonalds on South Kihei Road: I had the worst case of indigestion known to man after one of their “Big Macs.” Even the kids ad- ‘Polynesian - 7 ONE LAST RUSH for the sunny beaches of Hawaii (if the rain Stops) will be taking place from the shores of North America before our warm weather hits. The whole thing was YETCH! .5. The Kibei Drive-in, : adjacent to that other place: Best fried potatoes ever: cottage-cut and non-greasy. I liked the tacos and the buritos. The cheeseburgers are good and so are the large hot-dogs. It’s a grubby looking place but, next tc that dreadful MacDonalds, you can easily sce why they do a good trade. 6. The Koa House: The bar is the best! The drinks are reasonably priced and, if the © rain ever quits, you might be able to see the ocean. They have a Chinese’ food Ask about our Retirement Savings Plan Bank of British Columbia Cnorcaclets tern Bonk 980-2451 926-6071 ’ restaurant, which we had planned to try—until we met some other Canadians from Alberta. They had eaten there and told us that the place would be OK for Americans but, = since Canadian Chinese food is so superior we'd probably be disappointed. We took their word for it. 7. Buzz’s Wharf: No salad bar but a “salad in a saucepan.” Well done. The entree’s (steak, etc.) were cooked well and the service would be considered an “8.” We got change back for a $50 bill.
