MANY PEOPLE associate
the name “Volvo” with the
word “safety,” and for good
reasons. Over the past years,
Volvo has pioneered a num-
ber of safety-related fea-
tures, and built up a reputa-
tion for offering solid, safe
cars that won't require a
mortgage to own.

*Most recently, Volvo introduced
the Side Impact Protection System
(SIPS) in its lineup of cars and sta-
tion wagons, and raised the ante
another notch in the competitive
luxury car market.

The SIPS reduces potential
injury to the driver and the passen-
gers in side-collision accidents by
distributing the impact force
throughout the structure of the car.

“This was made possible through
the careful engineering of various
reinforcements, especially in the B-
pillar, sill, and floor areas. Simply
put, you have a better chance of
surviving a side-impact accident in
acar with SIPS than in a car with-
oul.

Later this year, Volvo will bring
in yet another major safety break-
through by introducing a side
airbag designed to work with the
SIPS system. to further reduce the
chance of being injured in side-

An annual Cosiing System Tune-Up Suggestion List should include (with some exceptions):

1.A visual check of the cooling
system ‘or indications ot leaks or
excessive oll content,

2.Pressute check the cooling
system for internal and externat
leaks with filler cap and neck
adapter and tester.

3. Check crankcase and automatic
transmission oil for water content.

4. Test coolant thermosiat with
tadiator thermometer.

5. Check temperature gauge for ac-
curacy. :

6. Drain system and flush till clean
