Hubert Soomers said his wife answered the door carly Sunday afternoon to find a uembling young man holding the battered lights. He also clutched a ripped and crumpled News article pub- lished the same day about the theft. “He was shaking like a feaf in his arms and legs,” Soomers, 65. “He claimed some friends put them in his vard and he had a dirty name for his friends. My wife didn’t know what he was saying. She was quite surprised,” he said. Soomers” wife asked for the young man's phone number so that Soomers could thank him. The young man said that wasn't necessary and ran to his car. He zoomed away. For the past cight years, Soomers has created an elaborate ghoulish scene at his North Vancouver home in the 400-block of West Windsor Ruad. He estimated 500 people came to see a display this year thar included a moving rocking chair with a witch and a wishing well with a protruding head. Soomers braved the pouring rain to set up the display on Halloween day. He was so tired on Halloween night that he decided not to put away the entire scene. Soomers only removed some display lights before going to bed.
