IT was a black weekend
for the Blues.

Capilano College's voliev-
ball squad and two basketball
teams couldn't buy a win.

The Blues were bounced
from the provincial volleyball
playofts Thursday after being
swept by the Langara College
Falcons 3-0.

The Blues feli 25 25-
16, 25-19 in the first round at
Malaspina College i
Nanaimo.

The foss broke this season’s
three-match win streak against
Langara. More importantly, it
abruptly ended a 24-14 overall
season.

Blues’ coach Wayne
Desjardins said experience was
a factor.

“They have pretty much
the exact same team as the one
that won the bronze a year
ago,” he said. “They commit-
ted 17 fewer attack errors than
we did. That’s your game right
there.”

Shannon McGregor had
10 kills and two biocks for the
Blues. Teammate Erin
Mitchell was named the player
of the game for Capilano
College.

Meanwhile, the women’s
basketball team was held win-
less in wo games. The Blues,
now 7-7, lost 66-52 to the
University College of the
Fraser Valley Fnday night

this year, if we play well we
should beat anybody, and if we
play poorly, anyone will beat

matter where we finish.”

The men’s team also lost
both of its games.

UCFV, the number one-
ranked team in the country,
beat Capilano College 112-
106 Friday. The Blues lost
again Saturday, 87-72) to
Douglas College.

Vernis Blair for family reasons
and Sunny Dhaliwal, who is
out for the rest of the season
with a serious back inju

Choyal Brown was one
point shy of Alex Nadraszsky’s
season high when he scored
35 against UCFV.

Rob McClelland’s dozen
assists against UCFV were the
highest assist total in a single
game this year.

Coach Paul Eberhardt said
the game was the Blues’ best
of the year.

“We were within one point
of them with 40 seconds to
play and unfortunately came
up just a litde bit shore,” he
said. “This is the closest that
anyone in our league has come
to beating UCFV."

On the flipside, Eberhardt
said the game against Douglas
College was the team’s poor-
est effort of the season.

The Blues are mathemati-
cally alive in the hunt for a
playoff spot, but will need
some help from Langara. Wins
in both Kelowna — and
Kamloops coupled with a
Langara_ win in Kelowna
would give the Blues a playoff
berth.

The team is 4-10 in league
play and 12-19 overall.
