AeWear garments, designed in-house amd manu- factured in Vancouver, are strong on detail and style, says Patrizia Leone, who is over- secing the campaign. Men and women are invit- ed to bring a photo with name and phone number on back to any A®Wear location. Winners of the model search will appear in A®Wear’s next advertising campaign. The contest closes Sept. 30, with winners announced Nov. 16. QQ0 This summer, the Salvation Army is urging shoppers to get nd of old hang-ups. The NEWS and Park Royal have joined together with the non-profit organization to help promote its Blue-Bag-It campaign. The program, which encourages shoppers to drop donations of unwanted cloth- ing at the mall, was launched Saturday in shopping centres across Western Canada. The campaign continues to Aug. 29, at which time organizers hope to have collected 140,000 bags of donated clothes. That translates to two million pounds of clothing, says Bluc-Bag-It consultant Cary Gaymond. The program will accept all manner of garments, regard- less of their condition, since “everything is totally, 100% recycled,” she says. The’ men’s apparel store closed its doors a week ago Saturday. Owner Bill Van Unen said he “lett a very good business behind.” After seven years in the waterfront development, he decided not to renew his lease. Van Unen cited problems with management as the rea- son for leaving. General man- ager Janice Maclean was unavailable for comment to press time. In the last year and a half, the Quay has lost many of its upstairs fashion retailers, including Zig Zag, Melrose Avenue, Melrose Place, Casablanca, Sock Exchange and the Something Special lin- geric boutique. While there have been a few new arrivals — First Impression, Sunstroke and Jeans Republic among them — empty storefronts remain. Meanwhile, Van Unen is enjoying a surge of business at his Caulfeild Village location, which he opened in Oct. 96. Van Unen’s son, Jason, will open a second J. Gregory in White Rock in August. Van Unen hopes to reopen in the Lower Lonsdaie area, this time with a strect-front location, in late fall or carly spring.
