A NORTH Vancouver RCMP
officer received 12 months’
probation on Tuesday in con-
nection with charges of
punching his estranged wife
and threatening his brother-
in-law.

Steve Melling, 30, was
found guilty in February of
the charges stemming from
incidents in May and June

last year in North Vancouver. .

Judge Kerry A. Smith sen-
tenced Melling in Vancouver
provincial court. :

Melling has worked at the
North Vancouver detachment
for five years. He has been
assigned to administrative
duties at the detachment. -
Melling used to work in the
