36 — Wednesday, October 26, 1994 ~ North Shore News Band together PARENTS OF District 44 school students have banded together to present a fundraising concert tomorrow, Oct, 27 at 7:30 pan. The Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble will join the Handsworth Concert Band in concert at the Centennial Theatre. The performance is jointly sponsored by the District 44 Band and Strings Parents‘ Association (BSPA) and the North Vancouver School District. The BSPA was formed by concerned parents in 1992 to save the elementary band and strings program when a budget shortfall of $10 million threatened its demise. The concert is a part of the BSPA’s ongoing campaign to keep instrumental music alive in North Vancouver schools. Gordon Cherry, principal trombonist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, will perform as guest soloist. Tickets, $3 each, can be purchased from the Centennial Theatre box office at 984-4484, Tickets will also be available at the door. Artists needed THE DISTRICT of West Vancouver is searching for local artists to design its 1994 Christmas card, to be distributed throughout the province and the country. The selection process will be by jury, and the winning image will receive a $250 gift and 50 complimentary cards. The submission should be a non-denominational image, 5% x 3% inches — or an image that will successfuily reduce to these dimensions — in full color, with a West Vancouver context. A one-page resumé or artist’s biography should be submitted along with a statement about the image created, including the medium used. Artists may submit up to three designs, Submissions should be mailed to or dropped off at the Ferry Building Gallery, 1414 Argyle Ave., West Vancouver, no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. Tour art by bus HOP ON the bus and catch a ride to Seattle for an art tour offered by West Vancouver’s Cultural Services (WVCS). The tour begins in Bellingham at the University of Western Washington sculpture gerden, then heads to Fairhaven for a lunch break before continuing on to Seattle to see some of the city’s uut- standing examples of public art. The bus departs at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from the Ferry Building Gallery, 1414 Argyle Ave., and returns at approximately 8 p.m. the same day.
