22 - Friday, October 23, 1992 - North Shore News Pumpkin teams in competition AS PART of Science and Technology Week, Science World British Columbia is hosting the Great Pumpkin Regatta on Saturday, Oct. 24. The challenge for the 50 com- peting teams will be to move a large pumpkin from one end of a four-metre trough of water to the other in the shortest possible time. The trick is to do this without using any human mechanical energy beyond placing the pum- pkin in the water. Instead, com- petitors will have to creatively ap- ply scientific principles to a collec- tion of materials supplied by Science World. Public entry in the regatta is limited to the first 50 groups to express_an interest on the day of competition. A team’s collective age must be fess than [00 years and each team must propel, convey or otherwise transport its pumpkin according to rules devised by Science World.
