municipality was giving up too
much public foreshore (about
5,400 sq.ft.) and paying too much
(half the cost of tiprap removal
plus park development totalling
up to $100,000) to get an 18,000
sq.ft. public park.

But others, while not in com-
plete agreement wiih the proposal,
were willing to go along with it
and urged council to vote for the
proposal and put an end to the
years of conflict over Garrow
Bay.

with 125 names of people who
were concerned about the loss of
public foreshore, the limited beach

would “invite subdivision by a
future council.”’

Croockewit and those she rep-
resented preferred an earlier op-
tion proposed by council months
ago, but found unacceptable by
the owner, or, failing that, the
‘status quo."

Meanwhile, Croockewit con-
linues to protest that the creation
of the subdivision lacks profes-
sional expertise and is non-con-
forming on a number of key
points.

But Wellington Avenue resident
Mark Jarvis said the status quo
‘is not acceptable. It is a
dysfunctional zoning that has led
to years and years of problems.”*

Diligenti urged council to have
the ‘political courage’’ to make
the decision.

‘*The proposal may not please
all of the people, but it does
please most of the people,’’ she
said.
