Parks dedicated A PROCESS that began over u year 2go to dedicate four North Vancouver City parks was finaily adopted Mon- day. The park dedication bylaws were introduced in Oc- tober 1990; public approval for the dedications was granted in a Nov. 17 referendum. The city then applied to the province ‘‘for title to the unopened roads that criss-cross the land in question," ‘explained city clerk Bruce Hawkshaw ia a Dec, 11 report to council. The titie-transfer has recently been approved by the province, allowing the city to proceed with the dedication of four parks: @ Loutet park; @ Eastview park at Rufus Drive and Cedar Village Crescent; @ an area at 23rd Street and Ridgeway Avenue; @ and a pocket park at 18th Steet and William Avenue. Hospital share NORTH VANCOUVER District Council has agreed to contribute $7,200 as its share of a 200-bed emergency hospital to be stored in the Navy League building at 15th Street and Forbes Avenue. The field hospital, which is crated and fully trans- portable for disaster response, has been made available by the provincial bealth ministry, which will aiso main- tain the unit. But building renovation costs to allow for partitioned storage and easy access will not be paid by the ministry. The three North Shore municipalities will share these costs in the same cost-sharing formula as the North and West Vancouver Emergency Program, provided that all three agree. The North Vancouver City committed its share of $3,250 on Nov. 25, West Vancouver Council approved its share several weeks ago. WV capital projects fund to be established ‘WEST VANCOUVER District Council has estab- lished a capital facilities fund for future capital pro- jects. ed WEST VANCOUVER DISTRICT COUNCIL Council will allocate money from various sources to the fund, including a portion of current revenues, existing funds set aside for the expansion of the municipality’s seniors’ activity centre, general revenue fund surplus and income earned by the capital facilities fund. The money will be invested and used to pay for: @ buildings and land; ® machinery or equipment; @ extensions of existing capital works. Former West Vancouver municipal manager Terry Lester suggested establishing the fund in early 1990 to allow money to ac- cumulate for worthy projects. While the introduction of the new fund will increase taxes, the increase will be offset this year by the increase in the provincial homeowner grant, which will reduce the taxes payable for most West Vancouver taxpayers. The 1991 budget contained a transfer to a capital reserve fund of $638,000. Bring your Christrnas| | | WISH LIST...
