Joy Metcalfe JOY TELLS ALL FORMER BCTV-ER and North Van politician turned movie-maker Gary Payne is gearing up for the premiere of his major movie, Kootenai Brown, which was filmed in B.C. about two years ago. The legendary Kootenai Brown is played by Tom Burlinson, the star of the movie, The Man From Snowy River, while big Raymond Burr plays a frontier judge. The villain of the piece is Deep Cove’s very own Donnelly Rhodes, the former star of the TV series Danger Bay. This is a major departure in ac- ting roles for the suave Donnelly. Those who have previewed the film say they always knew that he was a good actor but until this performance, they didn’t know he was a great actor! The world premiere of Kootenai Brown will take place at the Starlight Theatre on Friday, Sept. 27... Talented Don Conley will emcee the St. Anthony/Christ The Redeemer fundraising gourmet dinner and auction on Monday, Sept. 23..Earlier in the day, there'll be their first-even open golf tournament at Seymour with The Texas Scramble. Speaking of hard-working groups, organizers of the fourth annual SPCA Walkathon in Stanley Park last Suaday were ecstatic with the turn-out. The walkathon ati: acted more than 600 people and their pooches. 1 have NEVER seen so many dogs in one place at one time — every size, every shape and every kind of canine and all so well-behaved! Happy news for SPCA presi- dent Randall Reynolds, and his dedicated PR Sytvia Zylla, is that this year they doubled their fund- raising total of last year! The scoop is that the fourth annual SPCA Walkathon raised a whopp- ing $30,225! ... Eye-catching out- tit of the day was Lions Bay resi- Gent and U-TV host, Douglas Miller's black T-shirt which read “*Fur coats are worn by beautiful animals — and ugly people!” which prompied some angry phone calls from ladies who hap- pen to own mink coats but who support the SPCA generously. Qooo, they were upset!... a - DEEP COVE’S Donnelly Rhodes plays the villain in the upcoming film Kootenai Brown. The West Vancouver Youth Band *** Corne and Join the Band °** Enjoy Travel. Congratulations go out today to Vancouver fire chief and Park Royal Towers resident Don Pamplin on his election last week to the presidency of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs. The association is a public service organization which represents 1,200 fire departments from all the provinces and (erritories in the country with headquarters based in Ottawa. The item is that Chief Pamplin is only the third Van- couver fire chief in the city’s 105-year history to occupy this challenging position.
