Shore students win $20,000 scholarships wget | THREE NORTH Shore Grade 12 students are among the 19 in B.C. who have won $20,000 Pacific Rim scholarships, the provincial gov- ernment announced Tuesday. The three — Reginald Mac- Donald of North Vancouver's Argyle Secondary Koko Yamamoto of North Vancouver’s Seycove Secondary, and Marc Wensauer of West Vancouver Sec- ondary — were chosen from among 185 applicants by a panel of university, college, school and business representatives. The scholarship allows each of the 19 graduates to live and to study in an Asian country for one year, at an average cost of $20,000 each. They were chosen for academic excellence, future goals, and potential contribution to B.C., Canada, and the world, said Education Minister Tony Brummet in announcing the awards. “Our ability to understand and (to) work with Pacific Rim coun- tries is vital to B.C.’s future. These students have met the challenge of excellence in their schools and communities,'* the minister added. The Pacific Rim scholarship program was introduced in 1987 as pari of the government's education initiatives for the region. Another winner was Lindsay Weeks of Garibaldi Highlands, who will graduate this year from Howe Sound Secondary School.
