campaign, said his first mandate is
to make West Vancouver's
municipal government more open.

Lanskail will assume mayoral
duties from Derrick Humphreys at
the inaugural meeting Dee. 8.

Lanskail was elected Saturday
with an almost 3 to 1 majority.
topping the polis with 9,870 votes,

Humphreys, who finished with
3,613 votes.

Speaking of his leadership style,
Lanskai! said: ‘I'm not criticizing
Mayor Humphreys’ stvle — mine
is just a different style."

aldermen and I'm contacting the
others for informal discussions to
try and improve the process of
government." he said Monday.

Humphreys said he was pleased
that 50 per cent of West Van-
couver's 25,627 eligible voters cast
their ballots.

thank his 450 volunteers who
helped lead him to victory.

“Tt was not a one-man show, ft
was a team effort that did the
job." he said.

“But to be quite honest | was
surprised by the size of the majori-
ty. We were getting reports of this
in the last 10 days, after canvassing
8O per cent of the district, sob was
reasonably confident. Tt was a
decisive vote and it shows me my
assessment (that West) Vancouver
wanted a new leadership style) was
right.”

When asked what his plans were
for the future. outgoing Mayor
Humphreys said he did not know

Humphreys, a former manage-
ment consultant, was mayor of
West Vancouver for eight years.

Lanskail is a former labor
nevotiator with the B.C. forest in-
dustry and has 20 years experience
on West Vancouver Council as an
alderman.
