Panorama Beach reopens DEEP COVE'S Panorama Beach has reopened for public use, but Eaghe Harbour remains closed because of high coliform lesels. Both beaches were closed June 26 when weekly tests, which are conducted at all recreational beaches on the North Shore, revealed coliform ceadings above acceptable levels, said chief health iaspec- tor for the North Shore Bill Kimmett. The health inspector declined to say what these coliform levels were because he said they would only be misleading to the public. High coliform levels are an indication of high bacteria levels in an area, “We had the same problem fast year.’ Kimmett said. *‘And we honestly do not know why.” Other North Shore beaches such as Ambleside and Dundarave haven't been affected. Kimmett said, becanse they are subject to effective flushing action bs the tide. Both Panorama and Eagle Harbour are protected areas where there is little sea-water circulation. On the other side of Burrard Inlet, Vancouver health officials were forced to close Suriset Beach beeause of similarly high col- iform levels.
