Using the ‘‘positive rein-
forcement method”’ of train-
ing, Coe says it is important
to begin working with
animals when they are very
young.

““In training wolves the
blueprint is set in the first
year,’’ she explains, adding

“that disciplines introduced

retaliation from the animal.

**And wolves remember if
you abuse them. They don’t
forgive that, ever,’’ Coe
emphasizes.

Neither is Coe forgiving
when it comes to the govern-
ment’s plans.

With financial support
from Greenpeace, and from a
woman in Whitehorse where
there has been a _ long-
standing wolf-human war,
Coe is embarking on an in-
dependent protest mission in
the Fort Nelson area.

“*} want to find out first-
hand what’s going on there,”’
she says, ‘‘and I’m going to

in the United States and in
Europe.

“*] can’t just sit by and
watch it happen here,’’ Coe
says, her blue eyes suddenly
flashing in anger.

as should Canada as a whole.
It’s one of the last countries
with a large wilderness area.’’
