Lawrence Fanzsega guided the truck down a steep, halt mile length of coad just after noon Thursday before stcer ing iC into a ravine and jump- ing from the cab just before the truck went over As a result be avoided a serious accident and escaped with only minor injuries The ineident took place on Highland Drive in West Van couver When Fanzega at tempted to gear down his Rempel Brothers cement truck, he could not re engage the gears box and the brakes weren't cnough to hold back the truck He stecred the truck for about half a mile down what police call a ‘‘fairly steep tuad’’, before driving it into a tavine and leaping just before it went Attempts to pull the truck trom the ravine were fruitless despite the presence of a 65-ton crane until Rempel employees cut the remains of the truck — which sustained about $50,000 damage — from the cement drum and pulled them up separately. Police who are logging an increasing number of residential break-ins across the municipality. In the most recent rash of incidents, they are dealing with day-time break-ins or attempts.
