latest movie

production, First Blood, is taking on real-life
drama and suspense even while it is being made
here in North Vancouver.

Scenes for the film are
being shot at Cleveland Dam
and late last week an armory
of guns being used in the
movie, enough to equip a
small army, was stolen from
the set locations.

Somehow, someone got
into the back of the locked
truck where the guns were
stored, sometime between
last Thursday and Saturday,
and made off with: 49
weapons.

And now the RCMP are

worrying about just what
kind of use the thieves may
have in mind for the
weapons, which include
everything from revolvers
and shotguns to automatic
rifles and even a tear gas
gun.

The complete list of stolen
weapons is three 12-gauge
police model shotguns with
folding stocks, three .44
magnum Smith and Wesson
revolvers, 14 .223-calibre
fully automatic 20-shot Colt

M 16s, 11 .223-calibre 20-
shot Colt semi-automatic AR
15s, three .223-calibre
Heckler and Koch 20-shot
semi-automatics, two 7.62
Marimont fully automatic M
60s, one tear gas gun, Ii
Italian 20-shot AP 74s, and
one 12-gauge double-
barrelled shotgun.

RCMP believe that apart
from the Italian AP 74s the
weapons were operable.

First Blood Productions
arrived at Capilano Canyon
after filming for the past
three months at Hope and
various areas of the Lower
Mainland.

Police cars wiped out
in ‘demolition derby’

A POLICE CHASE on

Lonsdale Avenue in
North Vancouver
turned into a

demolition derby in the
early hours of Sunday
and ended only when
the car being chased
broadsided an RCMP
cruiser.

In its wake it left a trail of
crumpled vehicles on North
Vancouvers main strect,
with two parked cars
sideswiped and damage to a
second police car. RCMP
report that the final collision
resulted in both the suspect's
car and the police cruiser
being totally demolished,
with the passenger door of
the police car being pushed
through to the opposite side
of the vehicle.

The RCMP officer and

the suspect involved in the
crash were both taken to
Lions Gate Hospital for
treatment to minor injuries.

The chase began at about
2:10 am. when a 1973
Mercury Montego was
involved in two hit and run
collisions with parked cars
on Lonsdale.

The Mercury was chased
north on. Lonsdale from
Third Street by an RCMP
patrol car and it narrowly
missed a head-on collisidn
with another police car at
Fourth Street.

A road block was set up by
another police car being
parked across Lonsdale to
block the streetatlIth.

The Mercury continued
up Lonsdale at a high rate of

speed and rammed the
roadblock car broadside. .

Police held Samuel Joseph
Allan Charette of Baird
Road, North Vancouver, in
custody while preparing: to
charge him with a number of
offences, including impaired
driving, two hit and runs,
and criminal negligence.
