Several weeks ago, CP
manager for Sports Sales
Development, Hugh
MacDonald of Vancotver,
learned that the national
team of coach John Ritchic
and skiers Dave Murray,
Steve Podborski, Ken Read
and Dave Irwin were being
forced to cancel summer

Zealand because of financial
problems from within the
Canadian Ski Association.

That's when CP Air en-
tered the scence. The airlines
came up with five free passes
to Nandi, Fiji, which is as far
as CP Air flies in that
direction.

No sooner had CP Air
done this, than two ski
manufacturing firms = --
Rosignol skiis and Solomon
bindings — also entered the
picture. The two ski firms
provided money for the rest
of the trip from Fiji to New
Zealand.

Further, other moncy was
found to enable four
members of the national B
and C tcams, heir apparents
to the national senior team,
to accompany coach Ritchie
and Company. The four

CP Air's MacDonald said
the national airline was
extremely pleased to be able
to help out “these superb
Canadian athletes.”

“All of them (the national
senior team members) are
great representatives for
Canada,” said MacDonald.
“And, if through this training
they can win medals at the
Lake Placid Olympics, then
the whole trip will be a big
bonus.”
