Rental units scarce VANCOUVER REMAINS one of the most difficult cities in Canada to find rental accommodation, according to the Rental Market Survey released by Canada Mortgage and Housing: Corporation (CMHC). The vacancy rate in Metro Vancouver declined to 1.3% this April compared with 14% a year ago. “Declining consumer con- fidence has. caused many potential first-time home buy- ers to take a wait and see atti- tude, which has increased the demand for rental housing.” said CMHC analyst Ray Toscani. He added that the vacancy rate is expected to fall to 0.8% by October of this year as fewer new rental! buildings are built to meet this growing demand.
