WELL-RESPECTED NORTH Shore composer Jean
Coulthard, now 86, will receive the Western Canadian
premiere of her work The Endymion with the Vancouver
Symphony Orchestra at the Orpheum, Feb. 19, 20, 21.
With more than 400 works to her credit, Coulthard has
been composing for more than seven decades. Her body
of work comprises full orchestra works, chamber ensem-
bles, string quartets, songs sonatas and music for the
piano. tin Sept. 1993, her opera Return of the Native
(based on the novel by Thomas Hardy) premiered in
Vancouver and her work The Lyric Symphony will be
presented by the Vancouver New Music Society, Aprii 24.

slides accompanied by a brief
biography.
