When you venture. out for trick-or-treating this evening, remember that Halloween is an important time for both kids and parents to turn up their radar. Here are some important safety “tips from Stay Alert...Stay Safe, the national streetproofing organization founded in 1987 and ‘funded through the generosity of the. Canadian Tire Child Protec- tion Foundation. Parents should discuss these tips with their kids to help ensure a safe’ and happy adventure on ‘Halloween night: @ Encourage your kids to wear makeup instead of a mask so they can see properly. And a short OPT costume will be easier to walk in than a long one. @ Make sure that your kids go trick-or-treating with family or friends. Make sure you know their Toute. @ Check the treats your kids col- lect before they are eaten. @ Ask your kids to walk, not run. And to look all ways before crossing the street. Trick-or-treat on one side of the street, then the other side. @ Teli your kids to go only to homes with lights on. @ Tell them never to go anywhere with a stranger. @ If someone asks them to go into a house alone, tell your kids tosay ‘‘No, thanks.”’ @ Give your kids a flashlight to help light their way. ® Know the Block Parent homes in your area and make sure your kids do too.
