Safety tips help ensure [

a safe Halloween night

WHILE WITCHES, ghosts and
goblins come out to haunt us on
Halloween, parents must be on the
alert for some of the more serious
dangers that can potentially cause
our children harm.

When you venture. out for
trick-or-treating this evening,
remember that Halloween is an
important time for both kids and
parents to turn up their radar.

Here are some important safety

“tips from Stay Alert...Stay Safe,

the national streetproofing
organization founded in 1987 and
‘funded through the generosity of
the. Canadian Tire Child Protec-
tion Foundation.

Parents should discuss these tips
with their kids to help ensure a
safe’ and happy adventure on
‘Halloween night:

@ Encourage your kids to wear
makeup instead of a mask so they
can see properly. And a short

costume will be easier to walk in
than a long one.

@ Make sure that your kids go
trick-or-treating with family or
friends. Make sure you know their

@ Check the treats your kids col-
lect before they are eaten.

@ Ask your kids to walk, not
run. And to look all ways before
crossing the street. Trick-or-treat
on one side of the street, then the
other side.

@ Teli your kids to go only to
homes with lights on.

@ Tell them never to go anywhere
with a stranger.

@ If someone asks them to go
into a house alone, tell your kids
tosay ‘‘No, thanks.”’

@ Give your kids a flashlight to
help light their way.

® Know the Block Parent homes
in your area and make sure your
kids do too.

old mentally challenged man. He

ESCORTS are needed at various
North Shore elementary schools to
take Grade 6 children to the med-
ical clinic for their vaccinations.
The volunteer must have -trans-
portation and be good with
children.

KITCHEN HELP is required at
a West Vancouver meal-delivery
service. during the’ Friday funch
hours. The volunteer. will »be
working with a fast-paced team.
Training and orientation will be
provided.
