Victim’s mom to address
Capilano College ceremony

THE MOTHER of ane of
14° women students who
were murdered by gunman
Mare Lepine at «a Montreal
engineering schooi on Dec.
6, 1989, will be the keynote
speaker at a ceremony to
mark the event at Capilano
College, 2055 Purcell Way,
North Vancouver, on
Thursday, Dec. 3, at 12:30
p.m.

Suzanne Edward, the mether of
Anne-Marie Edward, will speak
about the incident and will also
read the list of the Montreal mas-
sacre victims’ names.

The event, **Remembcring
Montreal: Day of Remembrance
and Action on Violence Against
Women," is held at Capilano Col-
lege each year.

Edward has become a national
advocate for gun control and is a
spokesman on the issue of vio-

fence against women.

Others scheduled to speak at the
esent include B.C. Women's
Equality. Minister: Penny Priddy,
North Vancouver City Coun.
Burbara Sharp and Chris
MeDowell of the Women's
Monument Project.

Folk singer Stephen Fearing will
also sing a song in memory of the
slain wonien.

The ceremony will be held at
the couiege’s north quadrangle.

A second memorial ceremony
will be held on Dec. 3 at the
Lucas Centre gym, 2132 Hamilton
Ave., North Vancouver at 12 p.m.

The ceremony’s keynote speaker
will be Mary Martin Sharma from
the Emily Murphy Transition
House for women.

She will) speak about what
women, as victims or friends of
victims, can do when violence
shatters their world.

The event is free and open to
the public.
