10 - Sunday, May 24, 1987 - North Shore News inquiring reporter by Stephen Barrington RICK HANSEN’S Man in Motion World Tour rolled home Friday after raising more than $10 million for spinal cord research. The British Columbia wheelchair athlete has wheeled his way through a host of harsh con- ditions, braving searing heat and icy blizzards to reach his final destination. Now that Hansen is finally home, gov- ernment officials are suggesting various ways to honor his efforts. For Terry Fox, the one-legged runner who died of cancer before completing a cross-Canada run, a monument was erected near the entrance to the B.C. Place stadium. This week, Inquiring Reporter asks people how the public can honor Hansen. How can we honor Hansen? Yvonne Perceval North Vancouver Maybe a charity named after him or a scholar- ship for disabled athletes. I think that monuments are stupid. Phil Tennant Vancouver Have a monument like they did for Terry Fox and put them together. Not them but because they were both outstanding. sO you compare . Jason Boyko North Vancouver Have a Rick Hansen day or put up a monu- ment — a statue like the one for Terry Fox.
