Motorcycle training saves lives

MOTORCYCLES are only
as safe as their riders.

This sentiment is only too
true according to Derothy
Swain, spokesman for the
Langley Driving School.

Although technology has
greatly improved the safety
of newer motorcycles,
“bikes are also bigger and
faster; people don’t realize
the dangers,’’ Swain says.

“Up to three-quarters of
riders with less than two
years experience will require
some kind of treatment as a
tesult of an accident.”’

But with training, that
number can be reduced by
75 per cent, she says.

courses that will run this
summer and fall. 11 will be
the only motorcycle training
program being offered on
the North Shore.

The goal of the program is
to make the novice motorcy-
cle rider aware of the dif-

vehicles and more prepared
for the road.

the age of 25 and 40, but the
program is trying to target
