Bravos start with win

THE COACHES Soccer
League commenced play in a
brand new season on Sunday,
but from the closeness of the
scores, it looks more like
mid-season.

Defending league and cup
champions North Shore
Bravos (formerly Iron Horse)
picked up where they left off
by beating Totemcolor 3-1
despite playing three-quarters
of the game with only 10 men
when an injury and a lack of
substitutes left them short-
handed.

Bravos got goals from
Nicky Pearson with two and
Tony Birrel on a penalty as
‘well as stand-out perfor-
mances from Gordy Begg

and Col Atkinson ‘on the
back line and Dave Shaw in
goal en route to their victory.

In other action, ~Millers
(formerly Carlings) mate a
first half goal stand up for a,
1-0 win over Northshore
Nissan with goalie Peter
Ward recording the shutout
while, at the other end, Jobn
Defazio stopped a penalty to
keep the score close.

Delco Realty (Eagle Har-
bour) and Molsons battled to
a 1-1 draw and, although
they controlled much of the
play, Olympia Gold Caps
couldn't solve the Inter-
national Paints’ defence and
proved to be vulnerable at the
back themselves as they drop-
ped a 2-1 decision.

Elsewhere, Lynnwood
Nordic downed Ray Johnson
Plumbing 3-1 and the only
one-sided score saw Park
Royal Hotel (Aardquin Con-
struction least year) dump
Labatts by a 5-1 count.
