INVESTING EN A CAR: It looked more like an “investment
rtunities” ad than the usual newspaper automotive
display ad.
A Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer headed the list at $100, 000, arid
three other new Ferraris were listed at prices ranging from
$46,011 to $39,500."

And there was nothing used about the used car prices listed
in the ad run by Rom Tonkin Gran Turismo, of Portland,
Oregon. There was a 1959 Rolls-Royce Silver Cload I with a.
$39,500 price tag, a 1979 Porsche 928 at $33,500, a 1979
Excalibur Phaeton at $32,875 and a 1978 Corvette Indy Pace
Car at $22,500. Down in the bargain basement was a

range
1978 Sliver Anniversary Corvette at a mere $16,950. (Of
course, these are all U.S. prices, so add another 15 per cent if
you're thinking in Canadian funds.)

EXOTIC. ELECTRIC: If y you think of electric cars as little
more than powered shopping carts, think again — and take a
look at the car above.

The Bradley GTE Electric kit car, from  Bradiey
Automotive, in Plymouth, Mion., is powered by 16 six-volt |
lead-acid batteries and is said to be capable of accelerating
from zero to 30 mph in only eight seconds. The body is
reinforced fibreglass, bolted to a standard Volkswagen Beetle
chassis.

pouring off the assembly lines in the hundreds of thousands in
‘roughly 10 years. Both government and industry experts
predicted production of 100,000 a year by 1986 and more than
one million a year by the year 2000.

They said the cars would. be selling for-roughly. $7, 500 and
would have, a range of 250-350 miles at-a steady. 90:mph. 7

“TUM” EASES GAS-BURN: You might think the vehicle
shown above is another electric, but it’s actually a mini-wagon
with two bucket seats and la cargo area which runs on
regular-grade gasoline and gets 50-70 miles per gallon.

Made at the engineering college of Nantes, France, it's
called a TUM — an acronym of Transport Urbain Minimal. It
weighs only 600 kg and has a top speed of 90 kmh, powered by
a 435 cc air-cooled flat-twin with a four-speed transaxle and
front-wheel drive. It uses mainly Citroen chassis components
and power train.

FORD EASES GAS-BURN: Talking of fuel economy, Ford
has come up with some real winners — and they aren't just
university-bnilt prototypes, cither. }
