THE Canadian
Automobile Association
(CAA) recommends
that the federal govern-
ment cut its 10 cent-a-
litre gasoline tax and
impose a more broad
based environmental
levy.

“By cutting the excise faa,
motorists would realize lower
prices at the pump and would
no longer be paving an unfair
share of taxes,” said CAA pres-
ident Brian Hunt. *Only
14.9% of Canada’s greenhouse
gas emissions (CO2) come
from cars and fight trucks
accounting for about half of
the 28.5% omissions from the
transportation sector.”
